Pride of St. Garvan's

At St. Garvan's NS, we are lucky to boast an immensely talented student body, within the fields of sport, music, literature, the creative arts etc. Here are some of their achievements.

Students from Caroreigh N.S recently participated in the Creative Spirit Awards. These awards are now in their fourth year and are a joint initiative between the Christian Media Trust and Diocesan Pastoral council. Children from all over the county can take part on a given theme. This year’s theme was “How can I save the environment?”. The categories were short stories, art or poems based on environment issues.
Caroreigh students Brian Mernagh, Gráinne Kelly and Orla Kelly each won in their categories.

Brian Mernagh won 1st prize for his story titled "Our Role in Saving the Environment", in the 1st and 2nd class section. Gráinne wrote a poem “My Love of God's World", and came 1st in the 3rd and 4th class section. While Orla also took 1st place with her poem by the same title “Love of God's World” in 5th and 6th class.

The pupils attended the awards night held in Clonard Community Centre which was hosted by members of the Ferns Pastoral Committee.  Bishop Brennan presented plaques and prizes to the winners. Prior to the awards night, winners of the short stories and poems sections were asked to attend the Christians Media Trust Studio to record their work. These recordings will air on South East Radio over three dates the 20th and the 27th of May and the 3rd of June all at 8:30pm.
Tune in on the 27th of May 2019 to hear the Caroreigh students recite their winning poems.
