Music & the Arts

St. Garvan’s NS boasts a wide array of musical activities. Music is embedded in our daily teaching and learning, enriching the student’s learning experiences. In addition to teaching the National Curriculum, we strive to provide the children with a variety of musical opportunities supported by the staff and the local community.

We teach an assortment of instruments including tin whistle, guitars and percussion. Children are exposed to a broad range of music genres, including traditional Irish music; modern popular music; world music and classical music, through composition; performance; and listening and responding to music.

Children are taught basic theory to enhance their appreciation of music.

Performance is a central to music in St. Garvan’s NS, the school choir performs at school masses and events. We have performed numerous times on the National Opera House Stage at the Sing Out Loud concerts.

Each December, we sing carols for the local day care and for the residents of the Knockeen Nursing Home and perform a junior Nativity play. We also perform school variety concerts in our local Camross Hall and have staged school musicals.

We take pride in and strive to nourish the musical, dramatic and creative talents of our students in St. Garvan’s NS.
